Stopover at Keenspace Monthly: Renaming?! I'll be darned... they didn't forget after all!

I was in the thick in the middle of it several months ago, and now here we are again... Is Keenspace finally going to be rechristened to something less confusing?

I've already written reams about my reasons for pushing for it, so I'm not going to do it again here other than stating "It would beneficial to most parties concerned".

I do hope that whatever name The Fab Four do choose though, it'll be a good one. (Personally I like Inkspace, but that's just me...)

Anyway, a thumbs-up to Woodson "Chibiartstudios" Baldwin for the article, and cheers to Gav for the response.

  1. I'm still not sure what I think about the name change. I mean, we have to redirect everyone from Keenspace to whatever it is we're calling it, everyone's URLs have to change, and you'll still get folks trying to find Keenspace.com sites. I'm sure those are all problems which can be resolved, but I don't really know if I feel all that strongly against it or in favor of it. I personally don't think it's that difficult to remember the difference between Keenspot/Keenspace, but maybe that's just me.

  2. if and when it happens i hope they still keep the keenspace domain active for all the old accounts with an auto redirect to the new account. l&z have so many sites linked to keenspace it would be a bummer to lose them all. i'm not a big fan of ink* mainly because some are produced with pencil only, others are entirely digital - although utimately all of them are digital so maybe 'digitalwell'?... hey , i kind of dig that! :D

  3. Inkspace already is a trademarked name.

I just hope they the "Keen" part of the name. Everything else Keenspot offers still has it and its not confusing, like Keenswag and Keentunes.

  4. Unfortunately Keenswag and Keentoons/tunes are related to Keenspot anyway, so the shared keen connotation isn't much of a problem because they're Keenspot subranches. And I don't really see Keenspace as 'subranch' of Keenspot.

I'm pretty sure the 'Keen' won't be kept in the name. Gav more or less said so in that article.

Personally I want Keenspace to have its own identity, including a name that doesn't sound too much like a 'spin-off' of 'Keenspot'. Rhe community is actually quite independent from Keenspot in every other aspect other than the hosting.

I liked Inkspace as a name because it still connects with the old name, and we can recycle the logo. But someone made a valid point it could clash with 'Inktank'

That said, some other names I thought of: MadMenage or SequentialArtist...

If it really is an embarrassment, they'll try to get it to embarrass their competitors instead: ModernSpace.com.
